Diversion Hike

Yesterday, I took the kids on a hike.  I know.  That does not sound like me.  It sounds like something Gregg would instigate, but the kids needed to go do something.  It is funny how Gregg going out of town throws off the balance of the Petersen home.

We picked a pretty simple hike.  We went up to Brighton and hiked from Silver Lake to Twin Lake.  The hike was probably only about 1 mile, but as we were looking at the sign pointing the direction we were to take, we ran in to a boy with his dad.  He asked us where we were going, and when we told him, he told us, "Oh that is a long hike."  Then we passed some more kids who promptly told us we weren't even close.  Since we don't do this very often, Jacey was getting a little leary of my day excursion idea.  She kept telling me we could turn around, or that we needed to rest.  She actually was pretty funny.  She would have been okay to drive all the way up to Silver Lake and just walk around the boardwalk.  When we actually got hiking, Max found his inner adventurer and was definitely in his element.  (We just should have taken the allergy medicine with us.  Apparently, the weeds he is allergic to are plentiful and in full bloom at this time of year.)

We had a great time.  We made it to our desitination, and we even got back home to shower before YW.  The only thing that would have made it better was if Gregg was with us.
